AMECO member Texas Center for the Missing was recently voted as the top finalist for the South Regional Finals of the CLASSY Awards in the Human Services category. Now, the Leadership Council will choose the top finalist in each of the 16 categories to win the National CLASSY Award. Below is an excerpt from the awards site:

Since its founding, Texas Center for the Missing has served over 120,000 children and families, trained 3,500 law enforcement officers, and provided assistance in more than 500 missing person cases. The Center offers crisis intervention, prevention, and community education services related to child abductions, runaways, internet lures, and endangered adults – and is dedicated to bringing hope and healing to the missing and their families.

The Center also serves as the administrator of the Houston-Galveston Regional Amber Alert, the largest regional Amber Alert program in the country serving more than 6 million people and the ONLY Amber Alert program run solely by a non-profit organization.

But what is remarkable is that this nonprofit-run regional Amber Alert Program is the most successful in the country, with an outstanding 93% recovery rate. And even more unbelievable, they do it without any government funding and only three staff members.
